Disney seems to understand there are a lot of people missing the goodies found in the various nooks in their parks. They’ve started releasing recipes for their favorite treats for us to enjoy from the comfort of our own couches. If beer has gone virtual, why not Disney World snacks?
The release of the churro recipe piqued my interest, but so far, I’ve managed to refrain from dabbling with that receipt. I’d end up making them on the daily and run down my supply of dark chocolate chips. And I have no avenue to shop for new pants. This keeps up, my resolve will probably dissolve. Full disclosure, Dinsey releases the Warm Cinnamon Roll recipe available at Gaston’s Tavern, I can’t be held responsible for my actions.
Anyway, I digress. The next recipe didn’t seem quite as detrimental to my waistline, well relatively, was the Dole Whip recipe. An alternative to the cupcakes I wrote about a couple of weeks ago. Yeah, I know. Ice cream isn’t exactly a health snack. There’s a lot of time to kill, and a trip to Aloha Isle isn’t in the cards.
Call it the skeptic in me, but I didn’t buy it. How tasty can these recipes be? Would they give up those secrets? The only way for me to know is to follow the rabbit down the rabbit hole.
The recipe can be found by downloading the Disney Parks app. Now You’re Cooking is featured on the main screen. My gripe is going to come early here. Their recipe is presented in a story format rather than a traditional recipe card. I had to spin several times to make sure I had the right stuff and the right quantity.
Apparently, I wasn’t the only one griping. If you head to the app now, they’ve put it into a readable format. Much, much better!
I was expecting more than just three ingredients when I clicked into get the much-beloved frozen treat. But no, that’s all they wrote. Ice cream, frozen pineapple, and pineapple juice. The equipment needed didn’t even include a stand mixer. All you need in that department is a blender.
There were specific measurements given for the amount of pineapple and pineapple juice but not for the ice cream. The recipe called for a big scoop of ice cream. I hesitated on that one. What exactly do they mean? What I consider a big scoop isn’t the same as what Adam believes is a big scoop. So, I gambled and measured out one cup of ice cream for the experiment.
So my edited recipe looks like this:
1 cup vanilla ice cream
4 oz pineapple juice
2 cups frozen pineapple
All three ingredients are placed in the blender and voila!
My decision to stick to measuring cups turned out to be pretty good. The end result was the right amount of pineapple goodness. Other choices made while trying this recipe, though…
Word of advice, don’t just pull out the frozen pineapple straight from the freezer. Our blender can take down ice cubes without a problem. The temperature and texture of the pineapple was a touch too much for it. We battled to get the chunks blended. I’d suggest leaving the fruit on the counter for five or ten minutes to let a thaw start.
Your blender will thank you, I promise.
In less than five minutes of active work, you have a plethora of pineapple Dole Whip! This is definitely dangerous information to have readily on hand.
And this recipe is a pretty close facsimile to what you would get at Aloha Isle or any of the other Dole Whip locations around the parks and resorts. Like I said, dangerous information to have on hand. Since we have no idea how long park closures will last, I hope they keep the recipes rolling in. Say, for example, their Warm Cinnamon Roll recipe. Or any of the other Whips they’ve released.
Quick notes: The star tip they’re talking about in the recipe is the 1M, not the 17 or 18 tips. Unless you want a thin stream of ice cream. If you don’t have a piping bag, cut a hole in the corner of a storage or freezer bag.
Short and sweet. See what I did there? That’s what I have for today. Stay safe and healthy, Nerd Girls!
